Children's Programming at the John W. Engeman Theater

Creative Dramatics (4-6 years old)
Mondays, 4:00pm – 5:00 pm

This fun and exciting class introduces the youngest actors and actresses to our musical theater program through imagination and creativity.  This class will guide students in creative expression through movement, songs, acting and theater games.  Familiar fairytales and storybooks will be the backdrop in guiding the students’ creative outlet.  The students will work to build self confidence and interact in group participation in a safe, fun, supportive and creative environment.    Students will give a final performance for friends and family at the end of the session.

Introduction to Broadway (7-9 years old)
Tuesdays, 4:00pm – 5:00pm

An introductory class to Broadway musical theater.  Students will learn basic blocking, choreography and stage terms using mirroring, pantomime and theater games in a fun, supportive and creative atmosphere.  Students will cooperatively come together and learn songs and scenes from familiar Broadway and Disney musicals to be performed for family and friends at the end of the session.

Introduction to Broadway (10-12 years old)
Tuesdays, 5:15pm – 6:45pm

A musical theater program that incorporates the 3 performance disciplines dance, singing and acting.  The goal of the class is to allow students the opportunity to experience musical theater while learning how to integrate the 3 basic elements.  Students will participate in warm up exercises, improvisational and sensory games, stage terms and directions that encourage the expanded use of ones creative imagination within a theatrical content.  Students will learn songs and scenes from familiar Broadway and Disney musicals to be performed for family and friends at the end of the session.

Musical Theater: How To Be A Triple Threat  (13-17 years old)
Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:15pm – 6:45pm

This class will focus on singing, dancing and acting – and how to integrate these skills into a seamless performance.  Students will work with a professional director/choreographer and a vocal coach to find and prepare vocal audition pieces that show off both their range and their acting ability.  They will do in depth scene study and study dance pieces from the musical theater repertoire.  Most importantly, they will learn how to use their acting, singing and dancing to create a character and provide the kind of performance professional directors are looking for.

Fall Session classes begin October 15thand run through December 5, 2007. A final showcase will be held on December 12, 2007 at 6:00pm. Rehearsals for the showcase will be held on December 10 and/or December 11.

A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $50.00 is required to reserve a place in class, the balance is due BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS. There are NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS FOR MISSING CLASSES. The John W. Engeman Theater reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. If a class is cancelled, registrants will receive a full refund.
